Dulcian’s Business Rules Information Manager - BRIM®

What is BRIM®?

BRIM® is a UML-based systems development environment where designers place the rules of a system in a repository from which the system can be generated. Superficially, BRIM® resembles CASE tools such as Oracle Designer. However, BRIM® is a complete, rules-based environment where, once all of the business rules are placed into the repository, both the database and applications are generated with no additional effort

Why use BRIM®?

·         It provides effective system management and documentation of all system business rules in one place.

·         It allows the system to support very complex process flows.

·         Users can be involved in the system development process.

·         BRIM™ allows for very rapid development and easier ongoing system maintenance.

What types of projects is BRIM® best suited for?

There are three main project types for which the BRIM® environment is ideally suited and brings the greatest value:

  1. Systems with complex multi-step workflows
  2. Systems requiring different access rules based on user type
  3. Systems where rules change often over time.

The greater the complexity of the business processes, the greater the advantage of using a BRIM® environment. Also, in an environment where rules change rapidly, BRIM® offers a huge advantage with ease of rule management and maintenance.

How is BRIM® different from other business rule products?

Many so-called “business rule” tools claim to allow placement of rules into a repository from which a system is generated. They all claim to do this “cheaper, better, and faster” than in traditional systems. However, most of these products have a very narrow view of what business rules are. They focus only on process-related business rules, often ignoring rules relating to the structure of objects within the organization’s information system.

BRIM® takes a different approach by managing all business rules of the system in a single, unified repository. The BRIM® repository is virtually complete. Rules can be specified to generate up to 97% of the system.
